Sarah Froeber is passionate about children and has devoted her life to empowering them and enriching their lives. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Duke University and a master's degree in developmental psychology from Columbia University. She has participated in research projects on child development, directed two demonstration daycare centers, and taught child psychology classes in high schools and community colleges. She is the author of eight stories for young people, five of which she also illustrated. Froeber translated Pelican and Pelicant into Spanish and The Lonely Bird into both French and Spanish. Four of her stories appear on the CD, Pelican and Pelicant and Other Stories Written by Sarah Froeber, which Froeber narrates. A trained actress who has appeared on stage and in film, Froeber taught acting at Duke University. She served as the artistic director and resident playwright of her award-winning Jelly Educational Theater. She is the author of 12 plays for childrenÑboth musicals and non-musicals. Melvin the Pelican is published by Dramatic Publishing. Wheelchair Dancer was performed as part of the Paralympic celebration in Athens, Greece, in 2004 and was cited as one of the best plays of the year for 1999 in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Each play and story that Froeber writes is intended to enlighten and uplift children by exploring, in a delightful way, the issues that they confront. A portion of any proceeds which Froeber garners from her works goes to fund the Jelly Foundation which she created, whose sole mission is "to sweeten the lives of children." Froeber has created two plays for adults: The Pitcher Plant explores the issue of environmental conservation and Put on a Happy Face details a woman's response to cancer. Her adult books include Speaking Stones,—a memoir of her journey to Scotland, and Reflection: Our Sojourn Through Western Ireland in Poetry and Picture. Froeber's most recent work for adults is The Gift of Many Lives: Encountering My Other Selves—a non-fiction work which recounts her encounter with 18 of her other personasÑwhat some might call "past lives." Froeber lives in Carrboro, North Carolina, just a few miles down the road from her beloved grandchildren who continue to instruct and inspire her.
