Maybe Baby, It's You is a comedy about the search for that most elusive of entities, the soul mate, and told in a series of 11 vignettes that cover ground from the first kiss to the not-so-golden years of marriage. We take a raucous ride through male-female relationships with two searchers with a laundry list of must-have qualities for a mate that swiftly dwindles down to "warm and breathing" as the only prerequisite; a mild-mannered Midwesterner whose blind date turns out to be the Greek goddess Medea; a film noir couple who realize that their razor-sharp banter is hiding their fear and vulnerability; a gorgeous, charming brain surgeon who is always "Mr. Wrong" due to his penchant for spastic, arrhythmic club dancing; a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary who realize that marriage may not have ended their search for a soul mate; an elderly divorced couple who entertain the fantasy of a reconciliation at their grandson's soccer game; and other would-be and shouldn't-be couples trying to find each other. Maybe Baby, It's You. Or maybe…it isn't.
Audiences responded with overwhelming praise for Maybe Baby, It's You. My principal said she was brought to tears and laughed out loud at this tender yet hilarious show.
Maybe Baby, It's You was one of the most successful plays our drama club has ever done. Its message shined through all the laughter.
A fabulous show to give 11 males and 11 females a chance to have "the lead."
We did this whole show a few years ago and it was terrific. We did not go with just two actors, though. We had some reappearances (computer dating attempt, wedding and restaurant-ready-to-divorce) of actors and lots of roles for the many people who usually try out for our dessert theatre. Some scenes are romantic, some touching, some poignant, some hilarious. Great show.
Hilarious show full of comedic yet tender moments. Perfect show for small casts and venues.
Definitely do the video segment. The audience commented that it really kept the pace moving and captured their attention. It's a great cover for scene changes, too.
I used 33 actors. We built four-sided, rotating scenery pieces to make the scene changes fast, easy and versatile.
