Practical Joker Mort McNulty hosts his own wake so that he can hear what people will say about him after he's dead, before he's dead. Mort's wife, Tricia, gets unwillingly drawn into the action and apologetically tries to convince everyone that Mort is playing another joke. We meet a variety of wakegoers—some there on purpose, some not—who eventually, with the right amount of suggestion and imagination, convince themselves that Mort is dead and Tricia is in denial. The mistaken identities, chases, and jokes within jokes within jokes culminate in Tricia turning Mort's wake into a suprise party as she tries to teach her husband a lesson about practical jokes.
It was a fabulous experience -- each performance was better than the last with many audience members returning to laugh again at Mort's antics!
One of the funniest and fun shows I have ever seen. All of the characters are interesting and bring something to this show, even the small roles.
Parlor Games was fun for both the audience and the actors. I was most pleased to find a script with many small parts to get kids on stage for the first timeÑmore girl parts than boy parts a bonus. It was a thrill to have the playwright attend the show.
We are in the initial stages of producing this show, but already my student actors and I are in stitches. Parlor Games is a very clever, well-written comedyÑas much fun for the actors as the audience.
Excellent play. Easy set and costumes make it a perfect play for high-school drama.
We loved it and so did the audience! The costumes and set were fun to make and the comedic moments had everyone in stitches.
Those producing the show will need to know right away that they need three identical caskets to pull it off. We were lucky enough to have a nearby vendor allow us to borrow them for the show. If that is not an option, purchasing will be pricy. The only confusing item was the description of a "pull out wall" in the script. Because of our theatre's limitations, we chose to eliminate that part. It worked out very well.
