It was a dreadful rainy night when Paddy Noonan knocked on the door at Michael O'Hanlon's cottage in the Northern Irish countryside outside of Ulster. Paddy drew a pistol from his coat and announced, with a bit of a grim smile, that he'd come "to kill ya." Noonan had set out on this fearsom Irish night to avenge the death of his brother, killed in a pub bombing by O'Hanlon and the IRA. The two-man play that ensues is filled with a comic irony and the tragic absurdity of the bitter cycle of violence between Protestant and Catholic in Northern Ireland. Religion and the Irish weather play quirky roles, as both of these colorful Irish men look to the exact right moment to kill the other. The advantage shifts one to the other as the play builds to a sudden and surprising finality.
